James Dansby Swanson is a Major League Baseball shortstop who currently plays for the Atlanta Braves (MLB). In the 2015 MLB Draft, he was chosen first overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He was traded to the Braves as part of a prospect package sent to Atlanta in exchange for Shelby Miller after one season in Arizona’s farm system.
Swanson made his Major League Baseball debut in August 2016 and was the only Atlanta rookie named to the Braves’ 2017 Opening Day roster, but he struggled offensively and defensively and was sent back to Triple-A in July.

Swanson set a career-high with a.274 batting average in 2020 while also ranking third in MLB with 49 runs scored. He followed that up with a World Series championship in 2021, the Braves’ first since 1995.
Swanson came in on a 440-foot (130-meter) home run, the longest recorded during his time with the Braves in 2021. Swanson hit his first major league grand slam on July 22 in a 7-2 Atlanta victory over Matt Moore of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Swanson was named to the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game roster as a reserve.
