Cindy Blackman Santana popularly known as Cindy Blackman is an American jazz and rock drummer who has recorded several jazz albums as a bandleader and has performed with several singers, performers, and bands including Pharoah Sanders, Bill Laswell, Joe Henderson, Joss Stone, etc.

Blackman was born on November 18, 1959, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, United States of America. She found her interest in drums at the age of seven when she went to a party and saw some drums which triggered her interests.

With her mother and grandmother being classical musicians and uncle being a vibist we would say she was no new to classical music and concerts. At the age of 11, she moved to Connecticut to study at Hartt school of music.

At the age of 14, Blackman got her first set of drums and she started to hit off from there. She later moved to Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music.

Is Cindy Blackman a good drummer?

The 62 years old Cindy Blackman started her drumming career at a very young age. Went through some struggles from people dissuading her from performing on the streets.

But in all became a big influence in town, which made her pursue her career even further, and was able to release her first composition in 1984 when she appeared in Ted Curson’s “Jazz Stars of the future”.

Cindy Blackman continues to influence the jazz industry with her unique styles and abilities which serve as an inspiration to younger generations.

Based on her achievements, which include, the opportunity to work with Lenny Kravitz in 1993, performances with Pharaoh Sanders, Ron Carter, Cassandra Wilson, Sam Rivers, Buckethead, Angela Bofill, Joe Henderson, and Bill Laswell.

And the ability to release 12 albums makes her one of the best female drummers at all times.
