American actress, Brooke Shields, was very close to her late mother and manager, Teri Shields. She shared a hearty felt message after her death in 2012.

“My mother was an enormous part of  my life and of who I am today. I loved her, laughed with her, and respected her. And although she had her share of struggles, she was my mom,” Brooke shared.

After her death, she faced heavy criticisms for allowing her daughter, Brooke who was very young by then, around 11 years old to star in adult commercials and other explicit contents. However, the backlash did not sit well with Brooke.

“How she protected me from so much of what devastating about being in the entertainment industry – the rejection, the jealousy, the being screwed over. The bubble she created around me was the biggest blessing she could have given me. The need to attack her is unnecessary.” she responded.

Brooke Shields shared that her mother’s alcoholic addiction was so severe and she was not willing to be sober as well, hence, creating problems between them.

“My mom’s drinking created a source of constant anxiety, fear: fear that she wasn’t going to be alive, fear that she was going to do something to embarrass herself,” she shared.

In 1995, Brooke left her and refused to be managed by her due to this same addiction.

“I had to leave her because of her addiction. If I had a manager now, they wouldn’t last five minutes if they were an alcoholic. It was long overdue. I needed to grab the reins and make my own mistakes,” Brooke said.
