Amber Heard will return in Aquaman 2. According to Kathryn Arnold, a former Hollywood executive who is now an entertainment industry analyst and expert, Heard only kept her role because her co-star Jason Momoa and the film’s director James Wan “committed to her” and were “adamant she was in the film.”

According to Arnold, Mera, Amber Heard’s character had a “strong romance arc throughout the film and some terrific action moments” in the first script of Aquaman 2. Heard practised for the sequence for several months, putting in five hours each day, but when she arrived on location, a costume designer informed her that her role had been ‘diminished.’

Arnold explained that the action sequence had been ‘taken out,’ and her role had been ‘radically reduced due to the bad publicity surrounding her life at the moment.
While Momoa was able to negotiate a raise from $3 million to $15 million for Aquaman 2, Heard was unable to do so. She was paid the same $2 million as specified in her initial contract because she was ‘fighting for her life to be in the film.
