The Athletic Bilbao striker said that he has been playing with pain in his right knee for the past several weeks and has decided to cease his participation and address the issue in order to be fully recovered for the preseason.

Williams expressed his disappointment at not being able to represent his country, saying:

Inaki Williams

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make because I won’t be able to be with my national team, Ghana, for the next meeting.”

Pledging his unwavering commitment to The Stars, he added:

“I want to say that I am fully committed and I will come back with the Black Stars if the coach deems it appropriate next calls.”

After committing to Ghana last year, the former Spanish international has delivered unimpressive performances and has struggled to make an impact.

Williams has failed to score a goal for the West African team in eight appearances, including three at the 2022 World Cup.

This is largely due to his new teammates’ inability to grasp his style of play since his multiple rushes into the opponent’s box frequently go unnoticed.

Ghana locks horns with Madagascar in the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium on June 18, with a win or draw ensuring qualification to the next Africa Cup of Nations event in Ivory Coast.
