The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has warned police officers who enlist outside influences to lobby for promotion, pledging to take action against such officers.

Egbetokun issued the warning during his speech in Abuja at the ceremony where a new Deputy Inspector General of Police and twenty-six other senior police officers were decorated.
He emphasized that the police force is a disciplined organization where promotions are strictly based on merit and not influenced by lobbying from powerful individuals.

The Inspector General of Police urged the newly promoted officers to uphold professionalism at all times. He also encouraged all officers and personnel of the force to remain dedicated to their duties to reap the rewards of the transparent promotion process during his administration.
Among the recently promoted officers is Assistant Inspector General of Police Yahaya Abubakar, who is now part of the force management team serving as a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Eleven Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, while fifteen Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police.
