Back in the 1980s, Ice-T kicked off his career in the underground rap scene, spitting raw lyrics inspired by his tough upbringing in Newark, New Jersey.
Sire Records took notice, and in 1987, he dropped his first album, “Rhyme Pays.” It was a groundbreaking move, tackling heavy topics like police brutality and gang life – got folks talking, that’s for sure.
Not content with just rapping, Ice-T shook things up even more. In 1989, he co-founded the heavy metal band Body Count.

Their song “Cop Killer” turned heads, addressing police violence in a way that had tongues wagging. Ice-T didn’t back down, though, and kept the hits coming with solo albums like “O.G. Original Gangster” (1991) and “Power” (1988).
Then, he slid into the acting game, snagging a role on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” in 2000. Playing a no-nonsense detective on TV while keeping his edgy rap vibe alive solidified Ice-T’s rep as a man of many talents.
Beyond the mic and the screen, Ice-T played host on “Ice Loves Coco” with his wife Coco Austin, giving us a peek into his hustle and home life. At 65, he’s still dropping verses, collaborating with the young guns in the game.
