Canadian political strategist, commentator, and senator, Hugh Segal has been reported dead. According to sources, he died on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the age of 72. No cause of death was announced.

Born on October 13, 1950, Hugh Segal was inspired by a visit from Prime Minister John Diefenbaker in 1962 to his school, United Talmud Torah Academy in Montreal.

When he was just 21 years old, he ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate in Ottawa Centre for the House of Commons of Canada in the 1972 general election, however, he was not successful. He was defeated again in 1974.
Segal was a senior aide to Ontario Progressive Conservative Premier Bill Davis in the 1970s and 1980s, and he was named Deputy Minister when he was 29. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada by Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin.
He also served as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee until he willingly decided to resign in 2007 at the request of the Conservative government.
