Hubert Reeves, a renowned Canadian-French astronomer known for his efforts to popularize space science and promote environmental protection, passed yesterday at the age of 91. Both the scientific and environmental worlds have lost a great deal with his demise.

Reeves, who was born in Montreal in 1932, showed a love of the cosmos at a young age. He completed his physics coursework at the University of Montréal before pursuing an astrophysics PhD at the University of Paris. His illustrious career lasted for many years at the French Center National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).

Although Reeves made substantial contributions to the science of astrophysics, his influence went beyond the realm of academia. In addition to his scholarly work, Reeves was well recognized for his ardent environmental activism.
