Panipuri is a deep-fried crisp flatbread filled with flavored water, tamarind chutney, chili powder, chaat masala, potato mash, onion, or chickpeas.

Panipuri has evolved tremendously over time. Originally known as “gol gappa,” the cuisine consisted of a small, hollow, fried wheat shell filled with seasoned mashed potatoes and served with tamarind or mint-flavored water.

Variations of the filling and the flavored water occurred over time, reflecting regional preferences and ingredient availability.
