Sir Roderick David Stewart was born on January 10, 1945, in Highgate, London, the United Kingdom as the youngest of five children born to Robert Joseph Stewart and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart.

Rod Stewart’s father was Scottish and was a master builder in Leith, Edinburgh. His mother, Elsie, on the other hand, was English. He schooled at Highgate Primary School and then attended the William Grimshaw Secondary Modern School.

Rod Stewart left school at age 15 but his music career began in 1962. He got his major breakthrough following the release of his third album, 1971’s Every Picture Tells a Story, which topped the charts in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.

Rod Stewart is regarded as one of the best-selling music artists of all time and has sold over 250 million records worldwide. He has had 10 number-one albums and was even knighted in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to music and charity.

Rod Stewart was ranked by Billboard magazine in 2008 as the 17th most successful artist on the “Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists”. He was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
