Her death occurred in Alexandria, Egypt, after the defeat of her forces by Octavian later known as Emperor Augustus in the Battle of Actium.

After her lover, Mark Antony’s suicide, Cleopatra reportedly chose to end her own life rather than be paraded through the streets of Rome as a captive.

The exact cause of her death is not known with certainty, but it is believed that she died by suicide, possibly by poison or by allowing a venomous snake (an asp) to bite her.

Cleopatra’s death has been the subject of much speculation and debate over the years, and there are a number of different accounts of how she died.

Modern scholars debate the validity of ancient reports involving snakebites as the cause of death and if she was murdered or not.

The location of Cleopatra’s tomb is unknown. It was recorded that Octavian allowed for her and her husband, the Roman politician and general Mark Antony, who stabbed himself with a sword, to be buried together properly.

Her death marked the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty and the beginning of Roman rule over Egypt, but her reputation as a queen, scholar, and lover continues to fascinate and inspire people around the world.
