American actress, Candice Bergen was 42 years old when she bagged her most popular role by far, Murphy Brown in the 1988 sitcom Murphy Brown.

She played the role of a recovering alcoholic woman who became a single mother and later battled breast cancer. The series provided Bergen the opportunity to show her comic side of acting, however, talked about important issues as well.
Unfortunately, not everyone was a fan of the show, as Vice President Dan Quayle shared that the show “mocks the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone and calling it just another lifestyle choice.”
The show won multiple awards including Best Musical or Comedy Series Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and more.

Bergen won five Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series out of seven nominations from 1989 to 1995 for her role as Murphy Brown alone.
