Irish actor and filmmaker Brendan Gleeson work in both fields. In addition to being nominated twice for a BAFTA Award and four times for a Golden Globe Award, he has won three IFTA Awards, two British Independent Film Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Since 1982, he has been wed to Mary Weldon. Rory, Domhnall, Fergus, and Bran are their four sons. Brán and Domhnall are both actors.
Fluent in Irish, Gleeson supports the expansion of the Irish language. Gleeson and his son Domhnall are supporters of the English soccer team Aston Villa.
