Springer entered the political arena as an aide in Robert F. Kennedy’s ill-fated 1968 presidential campaign.
Springer, who at the time, was working for a Cincinnati law firm, ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1970 before being elected to city council in 1971.
Springer started out his television career as a reporter for a local TV station and eventually advanced to anchor.

When The Jerry Springer Show first debuted in 1991, it was just a regular discussion program hosted by the then-polite Springer that focused on social concerns and US politics.
But in an effort to boost ratings, Springer switched things up dramatically after a few years, focusing on salacious and outrageous content.
Springer repeatedly defended his show, which ran for almost 5,000 episodes, against accusations it was too low-brow.
Springer referred to the show as an “escapist entertainment” but critic viewed the show as contributing to a dumbing-down of television and a decline in social values.
From 2007 to 2008, Springer hosted America’s Got Talent, and in recent years he fronted the courtroom show Judge Jerry.
