E. Jean Carroll is an American national by birth; born in Detroit, Michigan.

She made her debut appearance on tv in 1965 on To Tell The Truth. Her first piece Ask E. Jean appeared in Elle in 1993, and she continued to write for the magazine until 2020. It was very popular and known for Carroll’s opinions on sex, and her insistence that women should never structure their lives around men.

However, her writing style was considered  by many as ‘quirky, cheeky, and irreverent.’ She was sacked from Elle in February 2020. According to her, she was dismissed because of her rape accusations toward former US President Trump, however, Elle shared that the decision to fire her was strictly business.

In the mid-1908s, Carrol wrote for Saturday Night Live and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program in 1987. She was the host and producer of Ask E. Jean from 1994 to 1996. She also bagged a nomination for a Cable ACE Award in ’95.

Carroll has authored so many books and written for several magazines over the years. She wrote for The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Outside, Esquire, New York, Playboy, and more.

Her personal written works also include Female Difficulties: Sorority Sisters, Rodeo Queens, Frigid Women, Smut Stars, Modern Girls, and What Do We Need Men For? Mr. Right Right Now!: How a Smart Woman Can Land Her Dream Man in 6 Weeks, and more.

She also co-founded a website called greatboyfriends.com with her sister in 2002. The site serves as a platform where women recommended their ex-boyfriends to each other. It was acquired by The Knot Inc. in 2005.
