Philip Frederick Anschutz was born on December 28, 1939, in Russell, Kansas, United States. He was born to Fred Anschutz, and Marian Pfister Anschutz. His father Fred was an oil tycoon and land investor.

Philip Anschutz has a sister named Sue Anschutz-Rogers. He is of German ethnicity. He grew up in Russell, Wichita, and Hays, Kansas. He is a 1957 graduate of Wichita High School East who earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Kansas in 1961.

Philip Anschutz is a private man who stays away from media engagements. He has granted only three formal interviews from 1979 until 2015. He has made his wealth in oil, railroads, telecom, real estate and entertainment  He owns the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, a third of the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Staples Center.

Philip Anschutz is the owner of Anschutz Entertainment Group which oversees over 100 arenas and concert venues globally. He is bent on building one of the world’s biggest wind farms with his 300,000 acres of land in Wyoming.
