Steven A. Cohen is an American hedge fund manager and the owner of the Major League Baseball’s New York Mets. On September 14, 2020, Cohen and the New York Mets finalised an agreement for Cohen to become the team’s majority owner, with 97.2% ownership.

He founded the hedge funds Point72 Asset Management and S.A.C. Capital Advisors, both of which are now defunct and situated in Stamford, Connecticut.

In a 2006 article in The Wall Street Journal, Cohen was called “the hedge fund king.” His 2005 salary was reported to be $1 billion, a significant increase over his 2001 salary of $428 million. Cohen was named the highest-earning hedge fund manager 2014 by Forbes in February 2015.

In one of the largest criminal cases against a hedge fund, Cohen founded S.A.C. Capital Advisors pleaded guilty to insider trading and agreed to pay $1.8 billion in fines ($900 million in forfeiture and $900 million in fines).
