Jones had coached the Tennessee Volunteers from 2013 to 2017, and led the team to several victories, including leading them to their first bowl win during the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Who Is Butch Jones?

Lyle Allen “Butch” Jones Jr. is an football coach who currently serves as head coach at Arkansas State University.

Born on January 17, 1968, in Michigan, United States, Jones played college football for the FSU Bulldogs at Ferris State University, as a running back, wide receiver, cornerback, from 1987 to 1989.

Jones began his coaching career in 1990, as an intern for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL), under head coach Ray Perkins.

In 1993, he joined the Rutgers as a graduate assistant, before he became an offensive coordinator at Wilkes University, where he led the team to the Division III playoffs.

In 1995, he began coaching Ferris State as a running back coach and later as an offensive coordinator.

Jones has additionally coached Central Michigan (from 1999 to 2004, and 2010 to 2012), West Virginia, Cincinnati, Tennessee, and Alabama.

In 2020, Jones became the 34th head coach at Arkansas State University, and since then has led the team to several wins. He also doubles as a football administrator in the university.

Jones’ head coaching record shows an overall of 89–74.
