The keel laying ceremony for Icon of the Seas was held in April 2022, and the ship was launched in December 2022. Early estimates for the Icon Class put the ships at $2 billion each to build, although final costs may be lower.

Icon of the Seas has an internal volume of 250,800 Gross Tonnes and a length of 1,198 feet (365 meters). Icon of the Seas is as long as three and a half football fields, meaning that it takes almost 15 minutes to walk from one end of the ship to the other.

With 20 decks, the ship is taller than the Eiffel Tower. Icon of the Seas is powered by liquified natural gas (LNG). However, the engines can be powered with both LNG and distillate fuel. According to the company, the ship has the tallest waterfall, the tallest water slide, and the largest waterpark.
