Howard’s 382 career home runs were the eighth most by a right-handed hitter as at when he retired.

In 1969, he achieved a remarkable milestone by hitting 48 home runs and amassing 340 total bases in a Washington uniform, setting records that still stand for any of that city’s several franchises.

Beyond these individual achievements, Howard held several franchise records for the Washington/Texas team, which have since been surpassed but remain a testament to his impact.

He played 1,172 games, had 4,120 at-bats, hit 246 home runs, collected 1,141 hits, drove in 701 runs, scored 544 runs, and smacked 155 doubles.

His 2,074 total bases and a .503 slugging percentage reflected his sheer dominance on the field.

He ended up coaching the Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Howard passed away on October 30, 2023, at the age of 87.
