While in high school, he appeared in All-Star games, and batted .367 with one home run, ten RBIs, and five stolen bases, during his senior season.
Upon gaining admission into Vanderbilt University, he played baseball as a starter during his freshman year, appearing in 67 games, batting .336 with one home run, 38 RBIs, and 47 stolen bases.
In the same year, Bradfield made it to the NCAA tournament, won the Southeastern Conference Baseball Freshman of the Year award, and was named to the First Team All-SEC.
