How many nuclear power plants are in Ukraine?

Ukraine operates four nuclear power stations in Volhynia and South Ukraine, with 15 reactors. The total installed nuclear power capacity exceeds 13 GWe, placing the country seventh in the world by 2020.

All four current nuclear power plants in Ukraine are operated by Energoatom, a Ukrainian state corporation. In 2019, nuclear energy provided more than 20% of Ukraine’s electricity.

In 2020, nuclear power generated 70TWh of electricity, accounting for more than half of total generation. This was the third-largest share, with only France and Slovakia having a larger share. Ukraine is home to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

Ukraine’s power sector is the world’s twelfth largest in terms of installed capacity, with 54 gigawatts (GW).

Renewable energy continues to play a modest role in electrical output; in 2005, energy production was fulfilled by nuclear (47 per cent), thermal (45 per cent), hydroelectric, and other sources (8 per cent)
