As a tall forward, Daei was a prolific goalscorer and was known for heading accuracy and ability in the air. He was the world’s top international goalscorer with 109 goals until his record was broken by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2021.

During Ali Daei’s playing career, he was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2011. Following his retirement, he served as a member of the FIFA football Committee between 2007 and 2013.
