Richard Barnes is the Southeastern Conference men’s basketball head coach for the Tennessee Volunteers (SEC). Rick Barnes has made one final-four appearance. He made the appearance in 2003.

Rick Barnes is a highly regarded college basketball coach who has been coaching for over 30 years. He landed his first head coaching job at the University of Texas in 1998.
During his time at Texas, Barnes had a very successful run, leading the Longhorns to 16 NCAA tournament appearances, three Sweet 16 appearances, and a Final Four appearance in 2003. He also won the Big 12 Coach of the Year award four times during his tenure.

Rick Barnes previously worked as an assistant coach at George Mason University, Providence College, and Clemson University. In the NCAA tournament, he has a 25-26 (.491) overall record (including 19–16 while at Texas).
In 2015, Barnes moved on to coach at the University of Tennessee, where he has continued to build a strong program.
Rick Barned has led the Volunteers to six NCAA tournament appearances and two Sweet 16 appearances, and in 2019 he was named the Naismith Coach of the Year.
