Together with his wife, Darlene, Cunningham founded YWAM in Lausanne, Switzerland, at a youthful age of 24. They swiftly became enduring figures in YWAM leadership, holding the titles of Founders of the Mission and serving as valued advisers to YWAM International’s leadership.
In 1978, Cunningham co-founded the University of the Nations in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, in partnership with Howard Malmstadt. This endeavor further solidified his legacy as a visionary missionary leader.
Cunningham’s visionary leadership touched innumerable lives, imprinting an everlasting mark on global missions.
On October 6, 2023, Cunningham peacefully passed away in his Kona, Hawaii home after a valiant battle with cancer.
