How many Alou brothers are there?

The Alou brothers are three brothers from a prominent Major League Baseball family from the Dominican Republic.

Felipe Alou, the oldest of three brothers, was the first Dominican to play regularly in the Major Leagues. From 1958 to 1974, he played for the San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, Oakland A’s, the New York Yankees and the Montreal Expos.

Matty Alou the second oldest was a Major League Baseball outfielder from 1960 to 1974. Alou was a two-time All-Star and National League batting champion in 1966.

Jesus Alou the youngest of the brothers for his career hit .280/.305/.353 (86 OPS+) with 32 home runs and 31 steals in 1,380 contests.

The Alou family tree has since produced several other notable big-league players, including Moises, José Sosa, Luis Rojas, and Mel Rojas.

Jesús, Felipe, and Matty made history on Sept. 15, 1963, when they appeared (but did not start) in the same outfield for the San Francisco Giants.

According to his former Dominican team, Leones del Escogido, Matty Alou died in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, as a result of diabetic complications.

Jesus Alou died on Friday, March 10 2023.  According to ESPN’s Enrique Rojas, Alou had two “cardiovascular accidents” recently, but he was not known to be suffering from a “serious illness.”
