How Long did Ray Guy play in the NFL?

Ray Guy was an American professional football punter who played in the National Football League for 14-seasons.

In 1972, the Oakland Raiders selected him with the 23rd overall pick in the 1973 NFL Draft, making him the first pure punter ever drafted in the first round.

Guy spent his entire career as a punter with the Raiders, where he was selected to seven Pro Bowl teams, including six in a row from 1973 to 1978.

He was named to the NFL’s 75th and 100th Anniversary teams as a punter. His signature move was kicking punts that stayed in the air for extended periods.

The Raiders’ coverage unit had the field covered so well by the time a punt returner was able to field one of Guy’s punts that returns were difficult, if not impossible.

Ray Guy punted seven times for 299 yards (42.7 average) and 244 net yards in Super Bowl XVIII (34.8 average).

Although Guy rarely kicked for distance, his punts frequently pinned opposing offences deep in their end zone.
