How good is Paul Sewald?

Paul Sewald is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Sewald had a breakout season in 2021. He emerged as a member of the Mariners’ closers’ committee, recording 11 saves while posting a 3.06 ERA and a 1.021 WHiP in 64.2 innings, striking out 104 batters and walking 24.

Sewald became a member of the Mariners’ primary closer, with 19 saves and a 2.37 ERA and a 0.702 WHiP over 57 innings, striking out 66 batters and walking 15.

Despite a lower strikeout rate, Sewald has been even better in the 2022 season than he was in 2021.

Over 212 plate appearances, he has held opponents to a.130/.204/.260 batting line while allowing only seven home runs.

His.150 BAbip is truly remarkable. Sewald currently holds the record for the lowest BAbip in a season (since 1900) with at least 50 innings pitched, surpassing Vicente Romo’s.167 BAbip set in 1968.
