How did Logan Green start Lyft?

Logan D. Green is the co-founder and CEO of Lyft, which he co-founded in 2012 with John Zimmer.

According to Logan Green’s profile on LinkedIn, Lyft originated out of Zimride, a long-distance ridesharing company founded in 2007, which was built to create a more social, sustainable and affordable transportation system.

The idea for Zimride and ultimately Lyft struck while he was studying in Zimbabwe during college, where carpooling is a common form of transportation among neighbours.

Logan Green and Zimmer founded Lyft in 2012 and successfully took the company public in 2019. Since its IPO, however, the value of Lyft’s stock has dropped dramatically.

Today, Lyft provides more than 17 million rides a month and has grown nearly 2.5x year-over-year.

Green and Zimmer raised $4.1 billion for Lyft in 2017, valuing the company at $11.5 billion. The company debuted on the NASDAQ exchange in March 2019, with a value of $24.3 billion.

In March 2023, Green announced that on April 17, he would step down as Lyft CEO and become chair of its board of directors.
