How did kinder get salmonella? Is there a recall on Kinder Joy eggs?

The salmonella incident linked to Kinder products is being investigated by European health regulators, who believe it is linked to buttermilk used in a Belgian manufacturer.

The European Food Safety Authority and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control claimed in a “Rapid Outbreak Assessment” that they had matched the same salmonella strain that was infecting patients to samples taken from a facility in Belgium last December.

According to the study, “the processing step involving buttermilk was identified as a likely contamination location,” and hygiene precautions were put in place.

On Friday, April 8, Belgium’s food safety authorities determined that the factory could not ensure food safety.

Kinder Joy, Kinder Bueno, and other Kinder Branded and Ferrero products sold by Ferrero USA in the U.S are not affected by this recall.
