Johnny Depp met Nicholas Cage through his ex-wife, makeup artist Lori Allison. Through her, they became friends, and Nicolas persuaded Depp to meet his agent, Eileen Feldman.

The actor initially denied his inability to act. But Cage insisted on giving it a shot. Through him, he landed his first part as Wes Craven in Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984.
