Etika died on the East River in New York City on June 19, 2019, after taking his own life.

The YouTuber was believed to have drowned after jumping from the Manhattan Bridge, according to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. On June 24, 2019, his body was discovered, along with a backpack and phone that were thought to be his.

Etika was alleged to have posted disturbing stuff on his YouTube channel, including discussions about death and mental health.

He had uploaded an apologetic video prior to his death, in which he acknowledged to feeling suicidal and fighting mental illness. “I’ve had a fantastic life filled with thrills and happiness,” he remarked.

Etika was most known for posting reaction videos to Nintendo Direct presentations on YouTube. His real name was Desmond Daniel Amofah.

The American’s videos had over 145 million views and 1.3 million subscribers on the platform.
