How did Dakota Fanning get discovered?

Dakota Fanning was just 15 when she was discovered by producer Kim Fowley. In 1999, at the age of five, she began her professional acting career, appearing in a Tide television commercial.

Dakota Fanning auditioned for one of the main characters in I Am Sam (2001), and rose to prominence for her performance as Lucy Dawson in the drama film. In February 2014, Dakota Fanning recorded a voice role for the animated movie Yellowbird.

Dakota Fanning played significant roles as a child actress in the films Uptown Girls (2003), The Cat in the Hat (2003), Man on Fire (2004), War of the Worlds (2005), Dreamer (2005), Hide and Seek (2005), and Charlotte’s Web (2006), and the eponymous character in Coraline (2009).

In 2013, Dakota Fanning was cast as Olivia in Franny and as Viena in Viena and the Fantomes. Dakota Fanning had a starring role in the period drama series The Alienist.

In 2018, Dakota Fanning appeared in the heist comedy Ocean’s 8. In January 2013, she was cast as Beverly Aadland in the Errol Flynn biopic The Last of Robin Hood.
