Dean West, well known by his stage name Black the Ripper, was an Edmonton, London-based British rapper, grime MC, activist, cannabis activist, and entrepreneur. Dank of England (previously known as Black Magic Entertainment) was his record label, which grew into a clothing line and cannabis accessory firm.

West was born in the north London suburb of Edmonton to Guyanese and Montserratian parents. He attended Aylward School during his teens but dropped out at the age of 16. Although he maintained that he was not a football enthusiast, he was a long-time follower of Arsenal F.C. and had been since he was a child, as his father was also a fan of the team.

Black The Ripper died while on vacation in Montserrat, it was reported on April 6, 2020. He was discovered dead at the holiday home where he was staying, according to sources. He was 32 years old at the time of his death, according to reports.
A coroner ordered an autopsy the next day, and the Royal Montserrat Police began a complete investigation into the reason for his death. On July 7, 2020, his family confirmed that the autopsy revealed that he died of a heart attack.
