Alessandro Michele was born on November 25, 1972, in Rome, Italy. His father was an Alitalia technician, while his mother worked as an assistant to a movie executive. He completed his studies of fashion design at the Accademia di Costume e di Moda in Rome in the early 1990s.

At the Accademia di Costume e di Moda, Alessandro Michele learned to design both theatrical costumes and fashion wear. He had worked in Les Copains in 1994  and had later joined the luxury house Fendi.

Alessandro Michele worked at Gucci’s  London-based design office in 2002 after being invited by former creative director Tom Ford. He got promoted to Senior designer of Gucci leather goods in 2006 and associate creative director in 2011.

In January 2015, Alessandro Michele was appointed creative director of Gucci and then he relaunched Gucci’s popularity with Geek-Chic props. Gucci later launched its first fine jewellery collection based on his designs.

How did Alessandro Michele start at Gucci?

Alessandro Michele joined Gucci under former creative director Tom Ford in 2002 and rose quickly through the ranks and was named Senior designer of Gucci leather goods in 2006 before eventually serving as head accessories designer under creative director Frida Giannini by 2011.
