Dent would stay with the team until the end of the 1993 campaign, after which head coach Mike Ditka had been dismissed by Dave Wannstedt and the Bears had only won one playoff game since losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the 1988 NFC Championship Game.

After playing for the 49ers in 1994 on a contract, Dent earned a second Super Bowl ring despite missing nearly the entire season due to injury. Even after Dent returned to Chicago in 1995, his injuries would keep getting in the way. He would play the so-called designated pass rusher for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996 and the Indianapolis Colts in 1997, respectively.

Dent, who was a great pass rusher and thrived under defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan’s aggressive 46 defense, was 6 feet 5 inches tall and 265 pounds (120 kg). He was a member of the core group of outstanding players who helped the Bears’ 1980s defenses become renowned.
