Japanese professional golfer, Hideki Matsuyama who plays on PGA Tour withdrew from the Masters at the last minute due to a back injury. This happened in March 2022. Matsuyama emerged victorious at the Zozo Championship in October 2021 by winning the Sony Open in January.

His withdrawal comes less than one month before him defending his title at Augusta National, after becoming the first Asian winner of the Masters and the maiden Japanese winner of the Green Jacket in the previous year’s contest.

The Japanese player had limited his practice at TPC Sawgrass ahead of the PGA Tour’s flagship event, although had been hopeful to tee it up alongside Presidents Cup teammates Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann,” reports said.
