After the passing of 72-year-old Henry Boucha, the hockey community is in grief over the loss of a native son from northwest Minnesota.

Boucha, who was born in Warroad, has excelled at Minnesota’s sport since he was a little child. He was a standout winger at Warroad High School and steered the hockey team to the 1969 Minnesota High School State Hockey Tournament. Despite Boucha’s injury, the public became aware that his star was rising as the team lost the championship game against Edina in overtime.

Boucha was requested to join the American National Team while serving in the U.S. Army, and he did so. The Americans competed in the 1972 Olympics and won silver.

There are two sons and two daughters among Henry Boucha’s four children. His daughters are Bridgette Boucha Schulte and Tara Boucha, and his sons are Henry Boucha Jr. and Jean Paul Boucha, also known as JP.
With the USA Olympic team in 1972, Boucha took home a silver medal. This was the start of his professional career. He was the first Native American to be admitted to the American Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995.
