Heather Mack gave birth to her daughter Stella in 2015, shortly after being convicted of her mother’s murder. According to Indonesian law, Stella was allowed to live in Mack’s jail cell with her until she turned two years old.
Mack was forced to give Stella up after her second birthday in 2017. She was handed over to Oshar Putu Melody Suartama, an Australian-Balinese caretaker who befriended Mack shortly after she was arrested.
Stella returned to the United States with Mack in November 2021 but was immediately placed under the care of Mack’s attorney Favia following Mack’s arrest at a Chicago airport, as previously reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.

According to the outlet, after seven months, Favia relinquished custody of the girl, and Suartama travelled from Indonesia to reclaim temporary custody of the girl, only to be forced to give her up again in November 2022.
Stella, now 7, has been cared for by her mother’s maternal cousin, Lisa Hellman, in Colorado, according to ABC7.
