During a ceremony held on May 20, 2024, Dr. Okoe Boye, a native of Teshie, highlighted his personal connection to the hospital.

Having previously volunteered his services there while serving as a Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency, he gained insight into the hospital’s challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Okoe Boye recounted the hospital’s struggle to secure transportation for nurses and health workers to carry out essential activities in the community.

To address this issue, he spearheaded efforts to raise funds, ultimately procuring a 20-seater Mercedes Benz bus valued at half a million Ghana cedis.

“The idea is to support health workers so that once they work in a very comfortable environment, they can be motivated to take care of us,” Dr. Okoe Boye stated.

Additionally, Dr. Okoe Boye outlined plans for the hospital’s expansion, which is poised to commence under his tenure as Minister of Health.

He disclosed that the hospital, originally constructed through a bilateral agreement between the governments of Ghana and China, is slated to enter its second phase of construction.

“The good news is that the Chinese government has made us understand that they are willing to expand this hospital because the population of Accra is increasing,” he elaborated. “This year, the Chinese and Ghanaian governments, through the Ministry of Health, will start the expansion project.”

The donation ceremony garnered praise from Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, who commended Dr. Okoe Boye’s dedication and generosity.

Dr. Akua Afriyie Gyimah-Asante, the Medical Superintendent at Lekma Hospital, received the vehicle on behalf of the institution and expressed heartfelt gratitude. She assured the Minister that the bus would be utilized for its intended purposes, enhancing the hospital’s outreach and healthcare services.
