Has Kristin Smart been found?

Kristin Smart was last seen on her way home from a party at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo on May 25, 1996

Her body was never discovered. She had no identification, money, or extra clothing when she went missing, according to officials.

In 2002, Smart was declared dead. Smart’s disappearance haunted idyllic San Luis Obispo, a small college town of just over 47,000 people located less than ten miles from the Pacific Ocean.

Billboards in the area depicted Smart’s face and asked for assistance in solving her mysterious disappearance.

However, nearly 25 years after her disappearance, authorities announced that new evidence led to the arrest of Paul and Ruben Flores in April 2021.

Paul and Ruben Flores were both tried at the same time but before separate juries. On Monday, October 17, 2022, a verdict was reached in Ruben Flores’ case; that decision was sealed until Paul Flores’ jury reached its verdict on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, when they could be announced concurrently.

Paul Flores could face 25 years to life in prison for the conviction, the release said. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 9, 2022.
