In September 2023, Henry Poole, a well-known English professional football player known for his erratic free kicks, passed away. Along with his friend Terry Miles, he was recruited by the Valiants from Milton Youth Club, and after completing his military service in the RAF, he joined the team in 1956 and played for it for the next 12 years.

Following his departure from Vale in 1968, he only spent one season at Sandbach Ramblers before returning to Vale as a fan. He continued to support them up until his health began to fail and the Covid lockdown prevented him from being there. In addition to his spectacular free kicks, Harry started more Vale games than any other player besides Roy and Phil Sproson and amassed 79 goals overall.

After his playing career ended, Poole spent 50 years as a season ticket holder at Vale Park. He married Gill, gave birth to Matthew and Mandy, and had Sam, William, Lily, and Laura as grandchildren. On September 27, 2023, Port Vale reported Poole’s passing at the age of 88.
