Harold Samuel Kushner was a rabbi, author, and lecturer from the United States. He was a member of the Conservative Rabbinical Assembly and the congregational rabbi of Temple Israel of Natick in Natick, Massachusetts, for 24 years.

Kushner has received numerous awards and honors for his many popular books that simplify complex theological ideas for both Jewish and non-Jewish audiences.

Kushner was known within the Conservative movement for his Reconstructionist views, which emphasize the role of human agency in shaping religious belief and practice, as well as his ideological progressiveness. He argued against the concept of an omnipotent, interventionist God, instead emphasizing God’s role in providing comfort and solace to those in need.
