Her parents were Hans Goslar and Ruth Judith Klee. Her father was Germany’s deputy minister for domestic affairs until 1933, and her mother was a teacher.

Her parents were both devout Jews. Her mother died while giving birth to her third child, who died shortly after birth.

Hans Goslar was forced to resign from the government in 1933, following the election of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party to the Reichstag and Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor.

Following an unsuccessful attempt to relocate to England, the Goslars relocated to Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Hannah, her father, her maternal grandparents, and Hannah’s younger sister Gabrielle (“Gabi”) were arrested in June 1943 and detained at the Westerbork transit camp before being transferred to the Bergen-Belsen exchange camp in February 1944.

Before the liberation, her father and maternal grandparents died of illnesses. Hannah and Gabi were the only members of their family to survive the war and, in 1947, they immigrated to Jerusalem.

Hannah Goslar died on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 93, according to the Anne Frank Foundation.
