At the 2021 Junior Pan-American Weightlifting Championships in Manizales, Colombia, Hampton Morris, 17, made a great impression on Saturday, July 10. Morris set a Junior Pan-American record and a Youth world record when competing in the 61-kilogram weight class, clean-jerking 155 kilograms (341.7 pounds), more than two and a half times his bodyweight. Morris easily won the gold medal that day.

Morris failed his first effort at snatching 112 kilograms (246.9 pounds), but he succeeded on his second. On the barbell, he called for 115 kilos (253.5 pounds) for his third try, but he failed. Prior to setting the new Youth world record in the clean & jerk, he hit lifts of 151 kilograms (332.9 pounds) and 145 kilograms (319.7 pounds), making a perfect three out of three.
