He began working early in the film industry before making his directorial debut in 1995 with the short film, The Hard Case.
He went ahead to direct other movies such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Snatch (2000), Swept Away (2002), Revolver (2005), and RocknRolla (2008), Sherlock Holmes and its sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
Other films directed by him include The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), Aladdin (2019), The Gentlemen (2019), and Wrath of Man.

Ritchie is an Academy Award nominee. He was nominated for Best Original Score and Best Art Direction for the movie Sherlock Holmes.
He made over $1 billion from the movie Aladdin, with a gross ranking of number 34 across the globe.
