Guy Lafleur suffered from lung cancer. Lafleur’s health began to deteriorate in 2019. He underwent open-heart surgery with five bypasses in September. In November, he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous lobe from his left lung.

Then, in October 2020, he was diagnosed with cancer in his right lung. He passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 70.

Guy Damien Lafleur OC CQ, also known as “The Flower” and “Le Démon Blond,” was a professional ice hockey player from Canada. He was the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in six consecutive seasons, as well as 50 goals and 100 points in six straight seasons.
Lafleur played right wing for the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Quebec Nordiques in an NHL career spanning 17 seasons, winning five Stanley Cups in 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979. (all with the Canadiens). Lafleur was named one of the “100 Greatest NHL Players of All Time” in 2017.
