Guy Lafleur was the first player in National Hockey League (NHL) history to score 50 goals in six consecutive seasons as well as 50 goals and 100 points in six consecutive seasons.

Between 1971 and 1991, Guy Lafleur played right wing for the;

  1. Montreal Canadiens,
  2. New York Rangers, and
  3. Quebec Nordiques in an NHL career spanning 17 seasons, and five Stanley Cup championships in 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979 (all with the Canadiens).

In 2017, Guy Lafleur was named one of the ‘100 Greatest NHL Players’ in history.

After retiring from ice hockey, Guy Lafleur operated a helicopter rental company in Montreal that shuttles VIPs to and from the airport.

Guy Lafleur also owned a restaurant in Berthierville, Quebec, “Guy Lafleur Mikes Signature” which opened in 2002. He opened a new restaurant, called “Bleu, Blanc, Rouge!” in Rosemère, Quebec, on August 4, 2008.

However, Guy Lafleur sold the “Bleu, Blanc Rouge” in December 2012 for over $5 million. The restaurant closed on December 22, 2012.

In 2019, Guy Lafleur started facing health issues and in September of the same year, he had open heart surgery with 5 bypasses.

In November of the same year, Guy Lafleur had a cancerous lobe removed from his left lung.

Guy Lafleur was fortunate because doctors diagnosed it from (Stage) 1.

However, most of the people that consult and go to see the doctor, do so when the cancer is already at (Stage) 4.

Then, in October 2020, cancer was diagnosed in his right lung.

Sadly, Guy Lafleur died in April 2022, at age 70.
