According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the 48-year-old actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split from DeBolt, whom they married in 2012.
Ramírez, who publicly came out as non-binary in 2020 and prefers they/them pronouns, listed the date of separation as January 2018, marking more than three years before they publicly announced the couple’s separation on social media.
In a now-deleted Instagram post from July 2021, as reported by Out Magazine, Ramírez shared, “Ryan and I are no longer together. We remain loving and supportive in how we are choosing to forge our new individual paths.”
They expressed gratitude for the understanding and privacy shown by those around them during this challenging time.

In the divorce filing, as initially reported by TMZ, the former Grey’s Anatomy star requested that the couple’s assets be divided in accordance with their prenuptial agreement.
Additionally, they sought to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support for either party.
In August 2024, Ramírez marked their 48th birthday with a message of self-love in another since-deleted Instagram post.
They wrote, “There is so much to say but I’m gonna keep it simple. You’re welcome,” alongside a throwback photo. They continued, “Happy birthday to me. May this kid continue to feel and know that they are loved beyond their gender, they are valued beyond their productivity, and they will always be held and protected by this softening blossoming adult who may or may not be bringing their killer mullet back.”
Reflecting on their journey of self-discovery, Ramírez also shared insights in an interview with PEOPLE in December 2021.
